LOCAL BULLETIN - Ralph Petrucelli, known as The Father of the Pension Plan at Consumers Union, the publisher of Consumer Reports magazine, died Thursday, after a lengthy illness.

LOCAL BULLETIN - Thomson Reuters Guild unit activists Leslie Adler and Dan Grebler were chosen to receive the 2010 Thomas M. Keenan Newspaper Guild of New York Service Award for the contributions they made during the Local’s most bitter contract dispute with the media company in 25 years. At its meeting on Monday, the Administrative Committee also awarded a Guild Special Merit Award, which it created last year, to Anna Pierdiluca, first vice chair of the Consumers Union unit.

LOCAL BULLETIN - The Guild is pleased to announce the opening of nominations for its annual service award in honor of Tom Keenan, former chairperson of the New York Times unit who died in December 2000. Each year, the Keenan award honors the outstanding contributions of a Guild member. Nominations are open until Tuesday, May 25 at 5 p.m. EDT

LOCAL BULLETIN - The Guild’s free digital video editing course has proved wildly popular as members filled available spaces for all six weeks of the program in a matter of days. All members whose applications were selected for one of the three-day sessions should have received an email from someone at CWA/NETT Academy.

LOCAL BULLETIN - Grant Glickson, unit chair of The New York Times, became 2nd vice president, Elaine Lindsay, unit chair of the Writers Guild of America, East (WGAE), joined the Executive Committee and a full slate of delegates and alternates to the 2010 Newspaper Guild Sector Conference and the 2010 Communications Workers of America convention was declared elected last week.

LOCAL BULLETIN - With the Guild’s just-completed member survey showing very strong interest in training for digital video editing, a series of intensive three-day sessions – available to Guild members at no charge – will be held from next week through the middle of June.

LOCAL BULLETIN - The New York Local’s Representative Assembly on Tuesday night nominated two candidates to fill two vacancies on the Executive Committee and also nominated a full slate of delegates and alternates to the up-coming 2010 Newspaper Guild Sector Conference (Convention) and the 2010 Communications Workers of America Convention to be held in Washington, D.C. in July.

LOCAL BULLETIN - In the next couple of months, the Guild will have an opportunity to offer members intensive three-day training sessions in digital video editing at no cost. But before we do, we need to have some idea of how much interest there is in such training sessions.

LOCAL BULLETIN - The staff of the Writers Guild of America, East (WGAE), which is represented by the Newspaper Guild of New York, ratified a three-year contract on April 9, 2010. The new contract raises WGAE employee’s pay by 2 percent in each of its three years, for the first time establishes minimum pay scales for all job groups and includes a dollar-for-dollar 401(k) match on the first 1 percent of employee earnings that takes effect on March 1, 2012.
