From The New York Post | Reuters is being roiled by claims that one of its top editors has created a “hostile work environment” and “culture of fear” for her subordinates — and the NewsGuild has blasted management for doing nothing to address the concerns brought to its attention nearly four months ago.



In a nominations meeting at the Guild office on February 5, 2019, Guild members in good standing were nominated to fill several vacant positions.


Media professionals are well aware of the benefits social media promotion can bring, mainly, the driving of traffic to stories and building a stronger community among readers. Though when it comes to Instagram, the goals can seem a bit unclear, as this platform has not been traditionally designed to send readers to your stories or news site. But driving traffic is not the only perk to using social media. With visually-focused social media interfaces like Instagram, the point is to build brand awareness.


Hundreds of media workers were laid off last week. If this were to happen ten years ago, our industry would have been left dumbfounded. I’ve heard several journalists and media professionals both within and outside of our union comment that they’re just waiting their turn. Our members — and editorial workers across the country — are in a constant state of panic. Sure, this isn’t news, but it’s important for us all to not let this become the new normal in our industry. Layoffs are inevitable. But, you deserve protection and to leave a company on your terms.

When I’m not organizing labor movements or otherwise rousing the rabble, I consider myself an amateur cyclist and connoisseur of the digital realm. After a card check conducted by the American Arbitration Association on Wednesday, editorial employees of New York Magazine were certified to be represented by the NewsGuild of New York/CWA Local 31003.


In a nomination meeting at The New York Times on January 17, 2019, six Guild members were nominated to fill nine open vice chair positions. Additional nominees may be made under the following rules.
