LOCAL BULLETIN - Eight delegates and eight alternates to the upcoming 2015 Sector Conference of The Newspaper Guild-CWA have been officially elected. No other nominations were made from the floor and no additional nominations were filed by the Nov. 19 deadline.

LOCAL BULLETIN - Eight delegates and eight alternates to the 2015 Sector Conference of The Newspaper Guild-CWA were nominated by New York’s Representative Assembly on Tuesday night. The Sector Conference will be held in Orlando, Florida from Jan. 14 to 18.

LOCAL BULLETIN - Join your Guild colleagues and the rest of the city's labor movement for the New York City Labor Day Parade as we march up Fifth Avenue on Saturday, Sept. 6. All Guild members are invited to spend a few hours to demonstrate their solidarity and remind onlookers and marchers alike that a strong middle class depends on a strong union movement.

With the economy shrinking and the news business in turmoil, the Newspaper Guild of New York on Tuesday created an organizing fund aimed at increasing its presence in the media-dense city and securing its future as an advocate for news employees and their craft.

LOCAL BULLETIN - A single slate of candidates that includes the Guild's two current paid officers and its other incumbent rank-and-file leaders was deemed to be elected on Thursday when no opposing nominations were made in a government-supervised rerun of last November's triennial election that the Guild agreed to hold.

Pursuant to a voluntary compliance agreement between the United States Department of Labor (DOL) OLMS and Communications Workers Local 31003, The Newspaper Guild of New York (TNGNY), a new election will be conducted for several Guild offices.

LOCAL BULLETIN - Standard & Poor’s Unit Chair Randye Gilliam and Hudson News Grievance Chair Montasir Islam, both of whom had central roles in their respective contract negotiations last year, were named winners of the Guild’s 2014 Keenan Award.  The award will be presented at a meeting open to all Guild members on Tuesday, June 24 at 6:30 p.m. The Guild’s semi-annual membership meeting also will feature reports from Local Chair Karen Rohan, President Bill O’Meara and Secretary-Treasurer Peter Szekely.

LOCAL BULLETIN - Acting on a recommendation from the Local Elections Committee, the New York Guild’s Executive Committee has authorized the union’s attorney to negotiate with the U.S. Department of Labor over terms for rerunning last November’s election of local officers. The decision came shortly after the Labor Department notified the Guild of two possible administrative problems that had the statistical potential to affect the outcome of the election.

AL JAZEERA - On Monday, November 9th Guild members at Al Jazeera America Digital will be able to nominate officers for their Unit Council at one of two meetings scheduled that day at the Guild office at 43rd Street.

LOCAL BULLETIN - The Guild is pleased to announce the opening of nominations for its annual service award, named in honor of the late Tom Keenan. Each year, the Keenan Award recognizes the outstanding contributions of a Guild member. Nominations, which can be made by any member, are open until Friday, May 16 at 6 p.m. EDT.

LOCAL BULLETIN - A deadly explosion that leveled two apartment buildings in New York City on Wednesday had tragic consequences for a Guild member. Among the known dead in the East Harlem blast was the husband of Guild member Liseth Perez, an editor at El Diario. The Guild is taking up a collection.

LOCAL BULLETIN - Federal authorities last week dismissed a claim that the Guild violated the rights of hundreds of its members when its independent Local Elections Committee asked that Consumer Reports not allow its company email system to be used for a so-called digital debate ahead of last fall’s leadership election.

LOCAL BULLETIN - New York Times Unit Chair Grant Glickson announced on Tuesday that he is dropping all challenges to last fall’s Guild election in which he lost his bid to become president, saying the ongoing dispute has compromised his position as a Guild activist and that he was committed to “mending any fences that need mending.” But a separate challenge by a member who is not involved in either campaign is still pending.

LOCAL BULLETIN - Meetings of the Guild’s Executive Committee and Representative Assembly, originally scheduled for tonight, and a general membership meeting originally set for tomorrow night, have been postponed because of a strong winter storm that is beginning to dump an expected six to 10 inches in New York City and higher amounts in the suburbs to the east and the south.

LOCAL BULLETIN - (Postponed) The Newspaper Guild of New York will hold its annual membership meeting next week, with a handful of contract campaigns pending and a few more looming. In addition, the losing candidates in last year’s elections are challenging the outcome and seeking a rerun. This will be the final meeting at the Guild’s headquarters of more than 16 years.
