NewsGuild of New York Statement on President Trump's Recent Press Conference

President Donald Trump chose to pick a fight with the media again yesterday, further exposing a dangerous mindset toward the press and the necessary role of journalism in our society. Trump’s treatment of reporters Jim Acosta, Yamiche Alcindor, Peter Alexander and April Ryan was unnerving to watch. The President’s escalating attitude toward the media is unacceptable, and we cannot let it become commonplace. A free press is our constitutional right and critical to our democracy. The fact that we must continually remind the President of the United States of this is surreal. The NewsGuild of New York and all of our sister locals representing nearly 25,000 journalists across the nation are committed to protecting the valuable work of our members and ensuring their safety in the face of such hostility.
