The NewsGuild of New York Stands in Solidarity with Gizmodo Media Group Union

Unionized workers of Gizmodo Media Group Union, part of Writers Guild of America East, are on strike starting today to protest the company’s persistent disrespect at the bargaining table in the face of workers’ good-faith proposals. They are asking people not to click on or contribute content to ​​Gizmodo, Jalopnik, Jezebel, Kotaku, Lifehacker and The Root.

The NewsGuild of New York stands in solidarity with our GMG Union siblings. 

When management slow-walks negotiations, as they are with GMG Union, it is an effort to weaken worker power. Management is relying on standard anti-union stalling tactics in a misguided attempt to sap the strength and determination of union members who are fighting for a strong collective bargaining agreement. It won’t work. A strong union knows there’s no tactic management can employ that beats solidarity and collective action. 

This behavior is from the same tired union-busting playbook that’s typical of management everywhere. The brave workers of GMG Union aren’t letting them get away with it. They’re standing up and showing management what they think of those disreputable negotiating tactics.   

Their fight is our fight. 

The NewsGuild of New York knows the power of a strike. And we know that when we fight alongside each other as union siblings, WE WIN.
