AJAM Unit Council nomination meetings on Nov. 9

11/06/2015

On Monday, November 9th Guild members at Al Jazeera America Digital will be able to nominate officers for their Unit Council at one of two meetings scheduled that day. Unfortunately, AJAM management has not responded to the Guild's request to hold a membership meeting on site.  As an alternative - and to make sure as many people as possible can participate - the first meeting is scheduled from 7-8:30 a.m. and the second is from 5:30-7 p.m. on Monday, November 9.

Nominations will be accepted for the positions of Unit Chair, First Vice Chair, and Secretary.  Nominations will also be accepted for Unit Vice Chairs.

All Guild members at AJAM who are in good standing as of November 8th are eligible to be nominated, and to make nominations and seconds. Members who wish to nominate other candidates may do so in person at the meeting. A member in good standing is a Guild-represented employee of Al Jazeera America Digital who has filled out a membership card.

After the meeting, additional nominations and seconds may be made in writing, as provided by the rules for nominations and elections. These additional nominations and seconds must be signed by a member in good standing and arrive at the Guild office by 12:00 p.m. on November 13, 2015.  Only the following delivery methods will be accepted:  by hand, U.S. mail, overnight mail, via fax, or via email.

Nominations and seconds that are sent to the Guild after the meeting must be sent to: Peter Szekely, President, NewsGuild of New York, 1500 Broadway, Suite 900, and New York, New York 10036. They may also be sent by fax to Peter Szekely at 212-730-1531, or via email.

If no opposing nominations are made, those nominated will be declared elected to their respective offices by 5:00 p.m. on November 13. If there is a contest, an election will be conducted by mail ballot, as provided by the rules for nominations and elections. As this is a mid-term election, the term ends October 31, 2016.
