Guild October Training Series

09/22/2021

The Guild has so many fun and exciting workshops planned for October. Register for the workshops below to build those organizing muscles! (If you have any questions or trouble registering, contact Mobilization Director Chris Brooks at Chris@nyguild.org).

Labor Law 101

Every union member should know the basics of labor law and how to use it. This training provides activists with an introduction to labor law—the rights provided to workers, how those rights are enforced, and how to spot some of the ways that employers will bend and break the law to try and undermine our collective power.

This workshop is facilitated by Gay Semel, retired attorney who previously worked at Region 2 of the NLRB and was District Counsel for District 1 of CWA for more than 30 years.

Upcoming dates:

  • Saturday, Oct 2 from 11:30 am - 2:00 pm ET
  • Wednesday, Oct 20 6:00 to 8:30 pm ET

Stewards Training One: Defending Our Rights

NewsGuild stewards are the backbone of our union, defending their coworkers when they are needed most. In this workshop we will review how stewards can use their special rights and protections to effectively advocate for their coworkers in investigatory interviews. We will also discuss how to handle supervisors who are trying to put you off or trip you up.

Please fill out the information below and then select one of the upcoming training dates to attend. The number of attendees in each training is limited to ensure active participation in the workshop. New dates will be added as classes fill up. If you sign up for a date, but then cannot attend, then please email chris@nyguild.org.

Upcoming dates:

  • Wednesday, Sept 29, 6 - 8 pm ET
  • Tuesday, October 12, 5:30 - 7:30 pm ET
