Advanced: Mastering Public Speaking

For many, public speaking is the worst. Stage fright, sweaty palms, and a sudden pension to say many more nervous “um’s” and “uh’s.” There’s an inherent fear in speaking publicly. But, many don’t realize that if they can overcome their fear of public speaking, then they’re welcoming a lot more opportunity—professionally and personally. Public speaking is an invaluable skill that leads to career advancement and empowerment—whether engaging in one-on-one sessions with a source, peer or manager or giving a presentation to many colleagues.

In this advanced workshop, participants will master the most elusive public speaking skills, including speaking extemporaneously; writing and structuring an effective speech; and using body language and room management. Over the course of the two sessions (one on November 5 and one on the 12th), participants will tackle several speaking styles, from ceremonial and persuasive to informational and demonstrative. Through example, practice, and more practice, students will leave the course more prepared, comfortable, and ready to speak publicly.

This workshop will take place over the course of two Tuesdays — November 5 and 12, 2019. Attendance at the introductory public speaking courses is not mandatory to attend this workshop; however, attendance at both sessions is required. Please make sure that you can attend both classes before committing.
