Guild Members Protest NYT Stockholders Meeting

Nearly seventy New York Times staffers formed "a silent gauntlet" outside the company's stockholders meeting on April 25 to protest the contentious battle with corporate management over contract negotiations that began over a year ago. Guild members, whom lined up in the lobby and outside The Times building, handed out leaflets criticizing the company's proposed contract terms.

Thomas Middelhoff, former chairman and CEO of Bertelsmann and member of The Times Company board since 2003, walked past protesters on his way to the meeting.
Times publisher Arthur Sulzberger, Jr. and other members of the Sulzberger family also walked past staffers and a large poster and banner that read “Without Journalists and Staff, The Times is Just White Space.”
