MORE IN ‘24: NewsGuild of New York caps off seven days of coordinated worker action with Forbes Union rally on Monday

NEW YORK –  Over the past seven days, nearly 9 percent of The NewsGuild of New York’s membership walked off the job. 

Three separate work stoppages took place:

• Condé Nast Union, representing staff at brands such as Vanity Fair, GQ, Vogue and more walked off the job Tuesday for 24 hours.
• The Daily News Union, representing journalists at New York’s Hometown Paper, held an in-person picket and rally during their one-day strike on Thursday 

And Forbes Union began their three-day walkout Thursday, which ends Monday and will be marked by a 2:30 p.m. rally outside Forbes on Fifth. 

2023 may have been a record-breaking year for labor, with an upsurge in the number of strikes and contract victories. But The NewsGuild of New York –  the largest local in NewsGuild-CWA with nearly 7,000 members – expects this year to be even bigger. 

“Our members’ commitment to having a voice in the workplace and a seat at the table, as demonstrated by our collective actions over the last week, is an indicator of what’s to come,” said Susan DeCarava, president of The NewsGuild of New York. “Our members’ vital and essential work is under attack from greedy media company executives. So we’re ready – and are on track - for 2024 to be an even bigger year in our union and in the fight for fair and worker-centered standards across the media industry. ”
