Guild President Grant Glickson on Time Inc. Layoffs
New York, NY - Yesterday, Time Inc. announced that it is eliminating 4 percent of its workforce. That’s 300 jobs — 300 journalists who work at publications like Time, Sports Illustrated and Fortune Magazine. It appears that for every penny Time Inc.’s CEO Rich Battista saves, he loses just as much in journalistic integrity. Cutting 300 professionals from the newsroom is detrimental not only for the brand, but for readers across the world. We urge Time Inc. and Mr. Battista to consider the impact this will have on their final product delivered to readers, and not just their profits from advertising dollars.
