Digital video editing training to be offered through mid-June
With the Guild’s just-completed member survey showing very strong interest in training for digital video editing, a series of intensive three-day sessions – available to Guild members at no charge – will be held from next week through the middle of June.
The first training sessions will begin on Wednesday, May 5. A second session will begin on Saturday, May 8. Because of the short notice, members able to sign up for those two sessions have the best chance of getting selected. Some employers may be willing to give employees paid time off for this training. See if yours is one of them. Unless otherwise specified, all training sessions will be held at the Guild’s office: 1501 Broadway Suite 708, between 43rd and 44th Streets.
To sign up Guild members must login to www.nyguild.org and click on the link, located on the homepage, for the application.
CWA/NETT Academy, an affiliate of the Guild's parent union, the Communications Workers of America, designed the course, which is currently offering only Final Cut Pro 7, a Mac-based video editing program that is rapidly becoming the most widely used in the business. All equipment and software will be provided. Normally such training could cost $1200 to $1500. But for Guild members in good standing, it’s free.
The sessions, which run through June 16, are also being made available to members of two other New York-based Guild locals, IAPE (which represents Dow Jones employees) and the News Media Guild (which represents AP employees). The New York Guild’s just-completed survey showed that hundreds of members were interested in the training.
