Reuters journalist nominated for Executive Committee vacancy

LOCAL BULLETIN - The New York Guild’s Representative Assembly (RA) has named Moira Herbst of Thomson Reuters as its candidate to replace Priscilla Sutton, who left the Executive Committee when her administrative group at Thomson Reuters was eliminated. Herbst was nominated without opposition at the February 21 RA Meeting.

Digital video editing training to be offered through January

LOCAL BULLETIN - The popular digital video training program the Guild offered in the spring of 2010 is coming back for a six-week engagement for Guild members in New York. From Dec. 13 through Jan. 22, the Guild will offer the course nine times at no charge for Guild members only. Space is limited, so don't hesitate to sign up if you're interested in aquiring a new skill to keep pace in these fast-moving times.

LOCAL BULLETIN - The Guild will hold its semi-annual meeting for members from all units on June 28 to present the 2011 Keenan Service Award, to update members on the state of the Guild and to offer a preview of next month's CWA convention. LOCAL BULLETIN - Jill Jaroff, who stepped up to fill a leadership void at the Time Inc. unit and went on to improve the working lives of her Guild-represented co-workers by uncovering previously overlooked contract provisions, is the winner of the 2011 Thomas M. Keenan Newspaper Guild of New York Service Award. The award will be presented to her at a meeting open to all Guild members on Tuesday, June 28.

LOCAL BULLETIN - Thomson Reuters Guild unit activists Leslie Adler and Dan Grebler were chosen to receive the 2010 Thomas M. Keenan Newspaper Guild of New York Service Award for the contributions they made during the Local’s most bitter contract dispute with the media company in 25 years. At its meeting on Monday, the Administrative Committee also awarded a Guild Special Merit Award, which it created last year, to Anna Pierdiluca, first vice chair of the Consumers Union unit.

Writers Guild staff okays 3-year contract with 2% annual raises

LOCAL BULLETIN - The staff of the Writers Guild of America, East (WGAE), which is represented by the Newspaper Guild of New York, ratified a three-year contract on April 9, 2010. The new contract raises WGAE employee’s pay by 2 percent in each of its three years, for the first time establishes minimum pay scales for all job groups and includes a dollar-for-dollar 401(k) match on the first 1 percent of employee earnings that takes effect on March 1, 2012.
