Roosevelt Institute Voluntarily Recognizes Guild
Roosevelt Institute Staffers Unionize
NEW YORK, February 27 — The Roosevelt Institute, a think tank bringing together multiple generations of thinkers and leaders to help drive key economic and social debates, has agreed to voluntarily recognize staff members’ decision to unionize and the selection of the NewsGuild of New York to be their collective bargaining representative.
The newly organized staff issued a statement saying, “We are proud to join the NewsGuild and stand in solidarity with the labor movement. We believe collective bargaining will make the entire organization stronger and deepen our commitment to the values that define our work, including a belief in shared prosperity, equity, and democracy.
We look forward to working with Roosevelt Institute management in bargaining for a fair and inclusive contract that ensures our workplace reflects the vision and legacy of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt that we advocate to the world.”
NewsGuild of New York President Grant Glickson added, “Eleanor Roosevelt was herself a proud member of our union, and we are happy to see the staff of the Roosevelt Institute follow in the same great tradition.”
“The Roosevelt name is associated with a long tradition of championing workers’ rights, and many other progressive causes,” said Felicia Wong, President and CEO of the Roosevelt Institute. “Given that history, we support and recognize our employees’ decision to join the NewsGuild of New York. We look forward to working with them to continue to ensure that ours is a workplace that is fair and productive for all.”
