Ida B. Wells Society NYC Happy Hour
The Ida B. Wells Society is patterning with the NewsGuild of New York to host its first 2018 happy hour for journalists and media workers of color. The event will take place on June 12th, starting at 6:30 p.m., at the NewsGuild office.
Over 80% of media jobs, by some estimates, go to white applicants. This disparity weakens newsrooms' reporting abilities and omits key perspectives from the public discourse. We hope the event can serve as a space for people of color from across our industry to connect, (vent!), and organize against existing biases in media hiring and promotional practices.
Food and refreshments, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, will be provided. Nikole Hannah-Jones, co-founder of the Ida B. Wells Society, will be attending.
