TENTATIVE AGREEMENT ON GUILD CONTRACT EXTENSION WITH SCHOLASTIC

RATIFICATION MEETING SCHEDULED

November 9, 5:00 p.m., Rooms 605-610

 

Negotiators for the Newspaper Guild and Scholastic management reached tentative agreement on an extension of the contract on Thursday afternoon, November 2.

The proposed extension would provide:

    • A three-year contract with wage increases of 4%, 4%, 4% in each year. When compounded over the life of the contract, the increase totals 12.49 percent.
    •  

    • Full application of the wage increases to the Guild minimum wages in all job categories in each year of the contract.
    •  

    • Inclusion of Guild members in new benefit package.
    •  

    • No retrogressions in our current contract.

 

Negotiations for the Guild were led by Barry Lipton, President of the Newspaper Guild of New York and Peter Jones, Chairman of the Scholastic Unit of the Newspaper Guild. Other Guild negotiators were Winnie Whipple, SN Associate Art Director, and Jack Silbert, Editor of Scholastic Math.

Please be sure to attend the ratification meeting. The contract may not go into effect unless the membership approves it. Further details will be discussed at the meeting.
