At a special meeting of the Unit Council held earlier today, Standard
& Poor's Unit Chairperson Ed Fannon nominated Randye Gilliam to fill the
vacant position of First Vice Chairperson. Gilliam who is a Senior Copy Editor
in Data Operations also serves as the Unit’s Grievance Chairperson. Marilyn
Bissell who retired in July formerly held the position.
“Randye has been at Standard & Poor's for over 25 years, on the Executive
Board of the New York Guild for the past two years and for the past two months
has served as our new Grievance Chairperson, she is the person I want to
nominate to fill this position.” said Fannon as described the attributes that
make Gilliam his choice to fill the second ranking position at the Standard
& Poor's Unit. After Gilliam’s name was placed in nomination, Joycelyn
Braithwaite seconded the nomination and more followed.
If there is to be a challenge of the Unit Council’s official nominee, petitions signed by at least ten-percent of theUnit’s members in good standing must be presented to Unit Chairperson Ed Fannon by 4:00 p.m., Monday, September 22, 2003. Copies of the petitions must be in the hands of the Secretary-Treasurer of the Newspaper Guild of New York by the same deadline. If no valid petitions are filed, the candidate of the Unit Council shall be declared elected. If there are sufficient petitions filed, an election will be held by mail ballot pursuant to the rules adopted and approved by The Newspaper Guild of New York, which will be posted.
