Guild-Represented Employees at 55 Water Street Will Not Be Affected

By Mc Graw-Hill Outsourcing Plan

Non-Guild Mailroom and Facilities Employees

At 42 Other Locations Not As Fortunate

Facilities and mailroom employees at Standard & Poor's 55 Water Street location can breathe a collective sigh of relief.  Meghan Doody, Manager of Workforce Initiatives, has confirmed to Guild officials that the downtown facility will not be a target for outsourcing.  In 42 other non-Guild McGraw-Hill offices however, CB Richard Ellis Services, Inc., will take over facilities and mailroom work effective March 1, 2003. Some of the specific duties the contractor will begin to perform there include mail services, building engineering and duplicating.

New York Guild President Barry Lipton was very pleased to hear that Guild- represented employees would not be affected by the parent company’s current push to shore up the bottom line.  “We’re glad that Standard & Poor's management saw the wisdom of keeping the existing staff in place.  Our Guild-represented Standard & Poor's employees are excellent at what they do and look forward to secure employment.”

S&P Guild Unit Chairperson Ed Fannon was equally happy to hear the news. “ During this holiday season, I’m especially glad [at the outcome] for our mailroom and facilities employees and their families.”

Vacations Move To Calendar Year

Beginning January 1, 2003, all Guild-represented employees will be credited with their full vacation entitlement for the entire year. Also, any employee who, based on their most recent date of hire, would complete two, eight, or 20 years of employment between January 1st and May 31st of the same calendar year, will have vacation allowances applicable to those years of service.

Earlier this year, the Guild discovered that some carry-over language regarding vacations was inadvertently left out of the current contract.  The Guild subsequently inked a side letter with management restoring it.  Thus, all Guild-covered employees who started with the company before January 1, 2001, can still carry forward one year’s worth of unused vacation credits.  However, Guild-covered employees that started after January 1, 2001, must exhaust their vacation credits during the calendar year, unless management approval is granted to carry over some into the next year.

Unit Meeting Scheduled

A Guild Standard & Poor's unit meeting has been set for Friday December 20 for those who work at 55 Water Street, at 10 A.M. in the Bayview room on the 37th floor.  Guild-represented employees are urged to attend.  Another meeting will be held at 2:30 P.M. at the President Street facility for employees who work there.
