April 10, 2002 ARBITRATION SETTLEDLast
August, we reported on a Guild-covered employee who was out on maternity
leave, and then on vacation, when a contractual wage increase came due.
She received the increase, but not until she returned to work.
So, for about 10 weeks or so while she was out, she lost
approximately $700 in salary. The
arbitration of the case was scheduled to begin this week however, about
two weeks ago, the company decided to settle the case and pay the grievant
her money. Subsequent to our
publishing the SPotlight on this issue, a few other Guild members stepped
forward to make similar claims. After
validating those claims, S&P said it would also pay these employees. If there
are any other Guild-represented staffers who have been on maternity leave
or on other short-term disability and didn't receive a pay increase when
they should have, they should contact Unit Chairperson Ed Fannon at 3-3804
or Grievance Chairperson Marilyn Bissell at 3-3365. PRESIDENT STREET SITE
The
contract between S&P and Associates Management Corp., the consultant
and owner of the building on President Street in Brooklyn, expires June
30, 2002. Last week,
management told the Guild that negotiations are underway to extend or
amend that agreement. Fourteen
Guild-covered members work at that site. UNIT MEETINGS
