DEADLINE IS FRIDAYFOR ‘TARGETED’ EMPLOYEES TO VOLUNTEER FOR BUYOUT
REMINDER: Friday, December 9, is the deadline for “affected” individuals, that is, employees whose departments have been targeted by the Times for staff reductions and have received buyout offers, to submit the paperwork if they wish to volunteer for the buyout.
Employees who are facing potential layoff and have indicated that they want to remain working at the Times by interviewing with a Guild committee, and either have interviewed with company managers or have sessions pending, can submit buyout applications and that action will not diminish their chances of being placed in another job. Those who volunteer for the buyout have 10 business days following their submission of the paperwork in which to rescind their offer.
The December 9 deadline does not apply to Group 10 Account Managers in the advertising department. When the Guild learned that the Times intended to effect some subcontracting in that department, the union demanded that the process start over for Account Managers and that more lucrative subcontracting packages be offered to them. That has been done and the deadline for Account Managers to volunteer for the buyout is now January 17.
