 PLEASE HELP!

New York Newspaper Guild President Barry Lipton is calling on the members of our union to “help our sisters and brothers who are suffering so terribly from the floods and ruin visited by Hurricane Katrina on the Gulf States”.

“The heart-breaking pictures coming out of New Orleans make it clear that we have to help them as much as we can,” Lipton said.  “Lives depend on it.”

Barry asks members who want to contribute to the rescue effort to make out checks to the American Red Cross and send them to his attention at Guild Headquarters: 1501 Broadway, Suite 708, N.Y.C., 10036.  Please note on your check that it’s for “hurricane relief.”  Barry will collect all the checks and forward them to the Red Cross as the contribution of the members of the Newspaper Guild of New York.

Delegates to the Communications Workers of America’s Convention voted this week to send up to $4 million in aid from the international union’s Members’ Relief Fund to help CWA families in the afflicted region.  The union reports that many of our members in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama have lost their homes and have yet to learn the fate of relatives.

Please do what you can to help!
