Beauchamp
Alex Beauchamp,
the only member of the New York Guild to have received its Lifetime Achievement
Award, died at the age of 69, February 11, after a heroic 10-year battle with
cancer.
During decades of activism, Alex had been Chairperson of the
Representative Assembly, a member of our Executive Committee, and the Unit Chair
at Consumers Union, where he continually served on the shop’s Contract
Negotiating Committee.
In 2000, he temporarily joined the staff of the Local as an Organizer,
playing a major role in the bitter but successful fight that enrolled the Hudson
News unit in the New York Guild.
Alex asked that people make contributions in his memory to the American
Cancer Society by calling 1-800-227-2345, and restricting their contributions to
prostate cancer research.
